Mutanda Eco Tourism Program
The Lake Mutanda Eco Tourism Program is implemented by the Mgahinga Community Development Organization in partnership with The Intrepid Foundation. The overall goal of the project to renovate the Mutanda Eco Community Centre into a midrange ecotourism facility. By improving infrastructure such as cottages, kitchen, camping grounds, will greatly increase the economic viability of the lodge. Mutanda Eco Community Centre is strategically located a few kilometres from both Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Bwindi National Park. The upgraded midrange bandas will provide accommodation for tourists visiting Bwindi National Park to trek the mountain gorillas.
Community Ownership and Sustainablity
With this project, MCDO and The Intrepid Foundation believe that the Mutanda Eco Tourism Program has improved conservation outcomes at Lake Mutanda. This will be achieved by providing conservation training at the eco-lodge.
