In partnership with Daktari and local veterinary personnel in Kisoro district, Mgahinga Community Development Organization has again embarked on animal vaccination in communities adjacent to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
The 2016 summer veterinary exercise commenced with a radio talk show at Muhabura FM to create awareness on the public health focusing on the interlinked interactions between people, domestic and wild animals. Mobilizing the community members to actively participate in this important cause is one of MCDO's focus. The vet team has so far provided veterinary services to communities in Muramba and Nyarusiza sub-counties in Kisoro district. MCDO and partners will continue to work to ensure that any possible spread of disease from community livestock to the wildlife (focusing on Mountain Gorillas) in the protected area can be eliminated.
