In 2013Mgahinga Community Development Organisation (MCDO) will mark 10 years. Since its founding in 2003, MCDO has been at the forefront of advancing community driven development in communities adjacent to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Kisoro district, south western Uganda. MCDO's overall goal is to use tourism as a resource to provide education opportunities, improve livelihoods, and promote eco-tourism, better health and income generation. Here are some of our achievements:
145 students (82 males and 63 females) have benefited from MCDO’s sponsorship program
In 2010, we partnered with UNIDO to implement the first bamboo cluster development project in Kisoro district
Held computer training sessions for the local people
In November/December 2012, MCDO had the first exchange program that saw six students and three teachers from Kisoro Vision Secondary School, and one MCDO staff visit Sweden. This trip is part of a program to promote student exchange between Kisoro schools and schools in Sweden.
As the New Year is already here, we will continue to advance sustainable community development in Kisoro, Uganda.
