MCDO supports a handicrafts group that operates at Amajambere Community Camp. The main objective of the handicraft project is to equip the local people with required skills so that they can be able to get alternative source of income by selling their produce to the tourists who visit Mgahinga. The handcraft groups are however not meant for women though they are the majority. So far few men have joined the groups. Marketing is also being done by MCDO volunteers so that some of these products can access foreign markets. Arrangements are also being made for the crafts to access market in other tourist destinations beyond Kisoro like Kabale district and Kampala city.
In 2010, MCDO partnered with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to implement a bamboo cluster development project. The project was completed in 2012 and its focus was training the local groups on how to make various utensils from bamboo like tables, chairs and baskets.
