Five secondary schools from Kisoro District that is; Kisoro Vision S.S, St. Pauls Mutolere S.S, St. Andrews Academy, Muhabura Shine S.S and Seseme Girls S.S are among the participants in this Conservation Camp 2015. The goal of the Camp is to raise awareness of students and other community members on how to become the best environmental leaders in their local community, Kisoro and Uganda as a whole.
Campers are also learning practical skills and gaining knowledge on subjects such as biodiversity, local conservation practices, Eco-tourism and Income Generating Activities (IGAs).
Various stakeholders such as Uganda Wildlife Authority, Wildlife Clubs of Uganda, Gorilla organization, Chimpanze Sanctuary, ALCDI, Kisoro District Local Government (Town Council) among other conservation champions are harnessing their efforts to this crucial noble cause of conserving our environment.
One way of successful implementation of the project is ownership by the community members and this was demonstrated in various group dynamics discussing and participating in finding possible solutions to different threats of conservation.
As champions contributing to conservation together with local communities in the neighborhood of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (MGNP), students have participated in a massive tree planting campaign termed as "Greening the Road" in Chana village (one of the villages adjacent MGNP) and strengthening the buffalo wall with live fence. We thank all of you who promote conservation and community development.
